A NOTE FROM THE BUILDER — 08/09/26

Bunka 1.2.1 is a small but handy follow-up to the big 1.2.0 release. The old SILENCE note is now MUTE: hold it to silence pattern playback for exactly as long as it is held, so you can switch pads underneath and finger-drum over the top while the sequence stays quiet. Loading a preset no longer disturbs your DAW's undo history. You can now right-click LOAD to set a default sample folder that sticks between sessions. And the waveform has a calmer color so slice markers stay easy to see, even on loud, normalized loops.

A NOTE FROM THE BUILDER — 08/05/26

Bunka 1.2.0 is out. Every one of the 12 pads is now its own scene, with its own slicing and its own settings. New LATCH/GATE modes for playing patterns live, gapless pattern switching, a transport-free audition button, pad copy and paste, and presets that remember their sample.

FULL CHANGE LIST

New

  • Per-pattern scenes. Each of the 12 pads now holds its own slice points and its own settings (pitch, reverse, attack, release, chance, pitch preserve, threshold, slice mode, grid division, bars). Twelve independent scenes over one sample instead of twelve orderings of the same one.
  • EDIT: PER PAD / GLOBAL. Dial in a starting point across every pad at once, then switch to per-pad to build variation.
  • MODE: LATCH / GATE. In GATE, pattern notes retrigger from the start and cut on release, so you can play patterns like an instrument and drop finger-drummed slices in between.
  • PLAY audition button. Hear the active pattern, sliced and stretched, without starting your DAW's transport. The speaker button still plays the raw file as an A/B reference.
  • SILENCE MIDI note (35). Stop pattern playback from a clip without automating anything. Finger drumming still sounds through it.
  • Pad copy, paste and clear from a right-click menu, and the clipboard works between Bunka instances.
  • Whole-bank presets. Presets now store all 12 pads' settings, ordering and slice points, and remember which sample they were made with, offering to load it back.
  • Missing file recovery. If a sample has moved, Bunka names it and offers RELOCATE/REPLACE, keeping your entire pattern bank intact.

Improved

  • Gapless pattern switching. Changing pattern mid-bar no longer leaves an audible hole.
  • A new instance starts silent rather than playing the moment you load a file. Arm SEQ when you are ready.
  • Undo now covers slice edits, shuffle and randomize, and jumps back to the pad the edit was made on.
  • LOCK does more. It still protects a pad's ordering, and now also shields the pad from global edits, paste and clear.
  • Far lighter on your DAW. Bunka exposes 16 parameters instead of 2095, so automation lists are clean, and sample memory use dropped substantially.
  • Clearer feedback for unsupported files, and a visible indicator when playback is silenced.

Fixed

  • Turning THRESHOLD in GRID mode (or GRID DIV in TRANSIENT mode) no longer wipes your manual slice edits.
  • Re-slicing is undoable, so an accidental wipe is recoverable.
  • BARS now restores correctly from a preset instead of loading at the right value but playing at the wrong one.

A NOTE FROM THE BUILDER — 07/21/26

All five plugins are now at v1.1.0 — the biggest update yet. Building on the recent quality-of-life round, this release brings refined typography and UI polish across the whole family, and every plugin now remembers its window size and layout between sessions. On top of that, a wave of per-plugin upgrades: GrainBrain gains grain Density & Reverse controls, a per-LFO rate multiplier and an output limiter, plus fixes to the LFO on/off & sync bugs; O2 adds an input spectrum display and output limiter, with the feedback and high-drive rumble bugs squashed and Transformer mode stabilized; Halide can now lock its grain Density to your tempo for grains right on the beat. Bunka and Foldspace round it out with the same UI refinements and fixes. Grab the latest and greatest from each plugin's page — if you're on an older build, this is the one to update to. Cheers! — Brittnell | X

A NOTE FROM THE BUILDER — 07/17/26

The "quality of life" round is here — all five plugins just got updated! Every plugin now has roll-over help (click the ? in the top bar, then hover any control for a quick explanation), a resizable UI (drag the bottom-right corner, from 50% up to 200%), brighter text throughout for better legibility, and in-plugin undo/redo. Most of the family also picked up collapsible panels, so you can fold away the sections you're not using. And from the last note's to-do list: the Windows installers are now digitally signed. SmartScreen may still show its warning for a while as the new signature builds up reputation with Microsoft — "More info" → "Run anyway" still applies for now — but that should fade as clean downloads accumulate. Grab the latest from each plugin's page. Cheers! — Brittnell | X

NOTE — 07/15/26

Thanks everyone for all the unexpected attention! I am so happy to hear so many people are enjoying these plugins. When I started making these, they were really only for my own learning, fun, and enjoyment, but I had this thought that maybe others would enjoy them as well, so decided "why not just share them for free?". It was a pretty quick and impulsive decision, so along with this also come some quirks: One is the unsigned Windows installers (which I'm currently trying to resolve), and then I may have neglected to include presets before compiling (d'oh!). I'm currently working on some "quality of life" updates (roll-over help, better UI contrast, resizable UI, maybe more), so will try and squeeze some presets in there as well. Cheers, and thanks again! — Brittnell | X

Five plugins, one language

GrainBrain multiband granular plugin interface
MULTIBAND GRANULAR FX

GrainBrain

Shatter your signal into grains across independent frequency bands, each with its own LFO-driven motion, spectrum view, and gate. The deepest knob-forest in the family.

O2 saturation and width plugin interface
3-BAND SATURATION & WIDTH

O2

Peak-preserving per-band saturation with real drift, feedback that pushes into self-oscillation, and a mono-compatible widener. Loud without getting small.

Foldspace wavefolding plugin interface
PHASE MOD × WAVEFOLDING FX

Foldspace

MIDI-driven carrier pitch and pitch-tracked wavefolding across three blendable insertion points. Built for bass design, tuned for chaos.

GRANULAR SMEAR + SPECTRAL FX

Halide

A grain cloud feeds a spectral smear layer in series — dissolving the sound itself into ambient fog, with musical chord-locked pitch and a freeze that never repeats.
